Reviewing a face oil designed for night use from the popular natural skincare brand,Aurelia London
The Happy Sage purchased this product.
In this article I'm testing and reviewing Cell Repair Night Oil from Aurelia London.
I've been using this natural night repair oil for weeks now and have researched the ingredients so you will know what to expect from the product if you buy it.
I love getting my hands on natural products and putting them through their paces! It's not just the product that I like to research though - I also want to know all about the company that I am buying from too.
Aurelia London
I like to support UK companies where possible. There are so many fabulous natural and organic products being made in this country and buying from them means your carbon footprint will be lower than if you buy products that are shipped in from abroad.
Aurelia London are an award winning skin care company and have won over 100 industry and consumer awards since 2013. They were also one of the first brands to use pro-biotics in skin care (however I should point out that the Cell Repair Night Oil on review here is not one of their probiotic products).
They are big on sustainability and ethics, partnering with not-for-profit organisations to ensure a sustainable supply of their pure and ethically sourced ingredients and they also pay a fair trade price to their suppliers.
They also have a range of vegan products and are registered with Cruelty Free International.
Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil
The product comes packaged in a stylish cream and gold cardboard box in a glass bottle with a dropper so that you can easily dispense the oil. It's classy packaging and would make a great gift!
Cell Repair Night Oil is designed to use as an overnight boosting treatment. This is so that it can work when the skin goes in to renew mode during the night for optimum results.
It is designed for all skin types, even sensitive, and that was really put to the test here as I have super sensitive skin (post chemotherapy), although I have never had an issue with products containing essential oils.
As we age the turnover of skin cells slows down and these dead cells can build up giving the skin a dull look. I find that regularly exfoliating my skin, especially before using a face oil, brings much better results. (You might be interested in my article on The Benefits of Exfoliation and Recommended Products).
Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil - Ingredients
I like the fact that Aurelia don't just use the INCI names in their list of ingredients, but also give a clearer explanation in brackets. INCI names (or to give them their full moniker - International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredients) are internationally recognised names for cosmetic ingredients, but are not helpful in telling you what is in a product, so full marks to Aurelia for helping make this clearer with this extra information.
Ingredients in Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil
Prunus amygdalus dulcis (Sweet almond) oil, Cannabis sativa (Hemp) seed oil, Triticum vulgare (Wheat) germ oil, Olea europaea (Olive) fruit oil, Schinziophyton rautanenii kernel (Mongongo) oil, Citrullus lanatus (Watermelon) seed oil, Punica granatum (Pomegranate) seed oil, Adansonia digitata (Baobab) seed oil, Kigelia africana fruit extract (Kigelia africana), Helianthus annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, Hibiscus sabdariffa flower extract, Citrus aurantium dulcis (Orange) flower oil, Citrus nobilis (Mandarin orange) peel oil, Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) oil, Rosa damascena flower oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Tocopheryl acetate (Vitamin E), Limonene*, Linalool*, Citronellol*, Geraniol*, Hydroxycitronellal*, Citral* (*naturally occurring in essential oil)
I was pleased to see hemp oil is in this luxurious blend, it's one of my hero oils! It has special qualities to help deal with dryness, loss of elasticity and fine wrinkles. It also absorbs quickly and helps skin retain moisture. Mongongo oil is excellent for anti-ageing and baobab is great for helping increase skin elasticity and rejuvenating skin cells. The mix is rich in essential fatty acids which helps the skin look smoother and younger, as well as helping to seal in moisture for better hydration.
Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil also has a great blend of essential oils for the skin as well with:
NEROLI - Helps improve skin elasticity and promotes regeneration of skin cells. Great for sensitive, dry and mature skins
ROSE - Soothing and anti-inflammatory, rose is said to be good for dry and sensitive skin and is also a treatment for thread veins
LAVENDER Promotes the growth of new cells and helps to balance sebum. Great for acne and eczema
MANDARIN - Can help ease dry skin and acne. It is often used in a blend with neroli and lavender to reduce the appearance of scars
I think the oil smells absolutely divine, but these are four of my favourite essential oils!
How do you use Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil
The instructions are to put 2 drops in the palm of the hand but to be honest I find I need 3 - 4 drops, but perhaps I just have thirsty skin! Then simply relax, inhale and apply to the skin.
I find it better to rub the oil into the palms of the hands first, then inhale the aroma. Warming the oil in the hands helps to amplify the aroma.
I then press the oil all over my skin (this avoids rubbing or dragging the skin). As I mentioned previously, the smell is divine and this routine makes a lovely evening ritual before you go to bed. I also press the palms of my hands over my eyes to apply a light touch of night oil around the eye area too.
Beauty Tip
You should always apply a face oil to freshly cleansed and damp skin. This helps you apply the product more evenly and allows the skin to take up the product more effectively and seal in hydration
Aurelia advise you to use it 3 times a week on normal/combination skin, daily on dry skin and to use sparingly to balance sebum on oily skin. I have combination skin and use it nightly with no issues, in fact I'd say that my skin has been more balanced since I started using it.
The oil absorbs quickly and leaves a healthy sheen on the face, it's not a greasy look at all, just a dewy glow.
Beauty Tip
After application use any oil on your fingertips to rub in to your ear lobes. People forget about this bit of skin, but it ages as well!
Also rub a little oil in to your eyebrows as well - the oil conditions them beautifully and helps them grow
Aurelia London Cell Repair Night Oil Review
I find that my skin is quite plumped in the morning after using the oil at night, especially when I use a gua sha facial massage tool as boost when I apply it (see the article on Gua Sha Facial Massage).
Using the gua sha massage tool helps make applying the oil into a nice bedtime ritual and I also noted that I don't have as many pillow wrinkles on my face in the morning when I use this oil at night!
Over the weeks that I have been using it I have had no reactions or breakouts at all and my skin texture is soft and smooth with no signs of pore clogging. Fine lines appear diminished and my face just has a healthy glow to it.
This oil is fast becoming one of my top night oils. I love it so much that I already have another four Aurelia products on trial!
I have also been using it with Green People's Liquid Gold Tanning Drops which you can use with any moisturiser you have on the face and body. You can simply adjust the amount of drops you add to get the shade of tan you are looking for. During the summer I add 2 - 3 drops of the Tanning Drops in to my Aurelia Cell Repair Night oil and just rub y hands together before applying it as above. Read my review on Green People's Liquid Gold Tanning Drops.
Aurelia Cell Repair Night Oil comes in 15ml (£20) which is a fantastic travel or trial size, 30ml (£38) and 50ml (£62) options and you need such a tiny amount of it that even a 15ml bottle should last you ages. The 15ml bottle for £20 is the perfect size to give it a go.
