AURELIA CBD AQUA-OIL CLEANSE

A review of Aurelia London's CBD Aqua Oil Cleanser

The Happy Sage purchased this product.

a bottle of aurelia london's cbd aqua oil cleanser

I am one of those people who has to get all their make-up off at night - so I usually have a double cleanse of some sort. I have recently been using a few new products (for me) from Aurelia London (one of my favourite natural skincare product companies), their Conditioning Eye and Lash Cleanser, CBD Oil Aqua-Cleanse and their Miracle Cleanser.

I like to get eye make-up and mascara mostly off before I start cleansing and it's quite hard to find a good natural product for this. Many people use their cleansers but I have to say that they are often not suited to the job. The only cleanser that I have found that I can use to remove eye make-up successfully with is Rose and Cupuacu Enzyme Cleanser from Baie Botanique (£28 for 120ml). This not only gently and effectively removes your eye make-up, it also conditions your lashes as well at the same time.

I have found with other eye make-up removers (such as Neal's Yard Organic Eye Make-up Remover) that my usually luxurious lashes get a little sparse and seem to break or fall out easily, so am always careful to monitor this on any product that I use on my eyes. One of the best that I have found to date is actually a new product from Aurelia called Conditioning Eye and Lash Cleanser (£32 for 100ml) - a lash boosting eye make-up remover.

Aurelia CBD Aqua Oil Cleanse - Ingredients

As usual, the ingredients list is good with nothing in that I would want to avoid although some people do get a rash or dermatitis/reactions from isopropyl myristate, however as I double cleanse this product will be washed off after use and I have not noticed any reaction on my super sensitive skin. (Note: this product is not suitable for vegans due to milk products).

Full Ingredient List

Aqua (Water), Isopropyl Myristate, Propanediol, Glycerin, Maris Sal, Bisabolol, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Citric Acid, Lactose, Milk Protein, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Cannabidiol, Tocopherol, Benzyl Alcohol

Basically it's a water and oil mix and the hemp and wheat germ oils mean there is plenty of conditioning for the skin and it won't strip or irritate it.

The cleanser also contains Aurelia's famous PROTIDA™ probiotic formulation to boost skin's immunity, tackle any inflammation and enhance the repair of the skin. Aurelia says that the cleanser is balancing, re-structuring and repairing. The CBD Aqua-Oil Cleanse formulation targets sensitivity, rosacea, blemishes and hormonal acne and calms natural immune triggers in your skin which can be caused by environmental pollution or stress. It also targets ageing, dryness and pigmentation. What's not to like!

Aurelia CBD Aqua-Oil Cleanse Review

To use the product you need to give it a good shake to mix the oil and water. Then apply to a cotton pad (or one of Aurelia's reusable bamboo cotton pads £16 for 10) and then sweep over your skin.

The product doesn't really smell of anything, just a very faint almondy-like smell. It certainly gets the make-up off but the instructions say you can follow the cleanse with a serum, oil or moisturiser. I would not be able to leave this on my skin and put serum, oil or moisturiser over the top. It feels a little greasy and slippery, This is absolutely great for cleansing and conditioning, but I feel like I need to wash it off before I apply any other products, but you certainly don't have to. I think I am just a creature of habit!

If you have a greasy to normal skin you could use Baie Botanique's Rose Renew Face Wash (£19 for 125ml). It's very concentrated so you don't need much and also very gentle so it does not strip the oils from your face and leave it too dry.

I prefer a cream cleanser for my more 'mature' skin so I have been giving Aurelia's Miracle Cleanser a try. I wash the product off with the Miracle Cleanser and a muslin cloth and then proceed with whatever serums, moisturisers or oils I am using.

The CBD Aqua-Oil Cleanse is a nice product and removes make-up effectively to leave your skin clean and it won't harm the delicate protective mantle of the skin. It should be quite good for people who have acne or hormonal breakouts and also if you want a product for a quick make-up removing session where you don't have to do anything afterwards, ie at festivals or if camping.

One word of warning though, keep it away from the eye are. One night I was not concentrating and used the product over my eyelids to remove my eye make-up and it irritated them and made them itchy and a bit swollen. I did test this again (sucker for punishment that I am) to make sure it was this product however Aurelia do not say that it is suitable for this use, this was just me making a mistake, so don't use it over the eye area (although this may just be a reaction specific to me - I had no reaction on the rest of my face).

Aurelia CBD Aqua-Oil Cleanse - £24 for 150ml.

If you ever get a reaction to a skincare product you can normally help it heal by using Neal's Yard Organic Argan Oil. This is an absolutely fabulous healer - you can read more about it in my article on How To Treat a Retinol Skin Burn.
