I'm Just Getting Started

If you have never made any of your own skincare or beauty products before or are just getting started, then welcome! I can tell you that it is an absolutely fantastic skill to learn. Not only will you and your family be able to use the natural skincare products that you make but it may even lead to you starting your own business in the future! It's so satisfying to be able to rustle up a product that not only works but doesn't contain any synthetic ingredients. Better for you, your skin and the planet! Take a look at the DIY skincare recipes section!

  • If you are just starting out I suggest that you stick to face and body oils butters and balms in the early days before moving on to creams, gels and more complex products.

  • Take a look at the Equipment page to see what equipment you might need to get started along with a list of equipment suppliers.

  • Take a look at the Ingredient Suppliers page which will give you a list of natural and cosmetic ingredient suppliers in the UK.

  • Buy yourself some aromatherapy books and start to learn about just how healing, effective and beneficial essential oils can be. I recommend The Fragrant Pharmacy and The Fragrant Mind by Valerie Ann Worwood as an excellent starting place, along with The Directory of Essential Oils by Wanda Sellar or Essential Oils for Beginners by Althea Press.

I Want to Start Selling

You have probably been making your own homemade cosmetic and skincare products for some time now, and with success. Friends may even have asked to buy some of your products but you are not sure whether this is legal and how to go about it and what regulations you have to comply with to sell your products.

  • Why not have a look at The Happy Sage guide to Starting Your Online Business to get an idea of what you will need to do to set up your business.

  • Then I suggest you have a look at the Cosmetic Certification (CPSR) page which will tell you all you need to know about selling skincare products legally.

  • If you are going to set up a website and sell online you need to make sure that your website is legally compliant. This is not as hard as it sounds - just check out the Legal Pages for Websites page for more information.

  • If you are going to sell your products then you might want to check out the Branding & Design page for help with logos and unique packaging ideas and if you are going to sell online,

  •  you are going to sell online, you might also like to check out the Online Marketing page for more information to help you make sales.
